Geoff is heading to the Gold Coast in March 2025, an area he is quite familiar with having led a couple of club trips to the region in the past. There is a lot more to the Gold Coast that skyscrapers and bronzed bodies. Departing 25 March, returning from Coolangatta 1st April on flight number[...]

Pohuehue Hill Beverly Price Loop @ Moirs hill Warkworth
Apr 13 @ 9:30 am
Meet at the car park just on the left just north (downhill) from the Pohuehue Viduct. at 9.30am.  Alternatively, meet at Glen Eden Post Shop at 8.30am and organise yourselves with car pooling. As today’s leader lives at Snell’s Beach, she will be meeting at the tramp starting point.
We will go up through the old forestry scrub -which is rough and clay, to the gravel road and after a break at the top we go back down the bush track,(Moirs Hill Track) taking in the waterfall track before finishing back at the car park.
The bush is really nice and doing this walk anticlockwise wise makes it easier I think.
Directions: Go north on the motorway to the Puhoi intersection, then take the old main road to the Pohuehue Viaduct. The parking is down hill from the bridge on the left . You will hear the rooster!

ANZAC Weekend – Waitako
Apr 25 – Apr 27 all-day

A number of years ago we took a number of successful cycling trips including weekends away.

As I no longer own a bike I have taken to hiring e-bikes at a number  of locations around the country. I have been thinking about reviving this kind of activity in the club for some time and have come up with a trip based in Hamilton.

The Te Awa Trail runs from Ngaruawahia to Karapiro. Most of it is an easy ride largely on off-road cycle trails. So, bring your own bike or hire a bike from River Riders based at the Hamilton Gardens.

Friday  April  25:  Meet  at  River  Riders  in  the  Hamilton  Gardens  at 10.30am. Entrance is through Gate 2, then hard left into the carpark. River  Riders  is  in  the  far  corner.  They  have  a  number  of  cycling options available with a 15% discount for Goldcard holders. We  will  cycle  south  towards  Cambridge  and  possibly  reach  the Velodrome before cycling back.

Saturday  April  26:  Mt  Kakepuku. This  is  approximately  45  minutes drive south of Hamilton. The walk up and back takes around 3 hours with good views of the surrounding countryside on a clear day.

Sunday April 27: Start once again at Hamilton Gardens at 10.00am. This time  we  will  follow  the  trail north along the river to  Braithwaite Park.  We  will  then  return  along Wairere Drive  where  the  trail basically follows the Hamilton Ring Road back to the Hamilton Gardens.

Accommodation:

There  is  a  range  of  accommodation  at  the Hamilton  City  Holiday  Park,  but  this  is entirely  up  to  you.  As  we  do  not  meet  in Hamilton till 10.30am on Friday, many may wish to travel from Auckland on that day. We will possibly go down on Thursday ourselves.

NB: Leader will be in Australia from March 13th till April 10th, but should be on email much of that time.

Shakespear Regional Park @ Glen Eden Post Shop
May 25 @ 8:30 am
It’s been quite a while since we visited this regional park at the eastern end of Whangaparaoa Peninsular. Meet at Glen Eden Post Shop at 8.30am to car pool or go straight to the Waterfall Gully Car Park drive (Army Bay Beach) by 9.30am. Park by the bird sanctuary gates.  Please advise the leader if you intend to head directly to the walk start point. We will walk up the gully to summit lookout, then choose a way to Shakespeare Beach and back around to our cards. Approx 3 1/2 hrs. An easy walk taken at your leisure.

Kawau Island
Sep 25 – Sep 29 all-day

Ferry  across  to  Kawau  Island  on  the  Saturday  and  stay  overnight  at  Camp Bentzon. Once there activities could include walking, swimming (for the very brave), and little yachts, paddle boards and kayaks are available for use.

We will do a walk over the ridge and walk to the yacht club, visit the Mansion house and walk around the park and some walks on the water front.

The ferry from Sandspit is $85. Accommodation is $40 per night, per person.

Please register interest with Sandra Duke.

This is a Thursday to Monday trip.
