This is the weekend prior to Labour Weekend. Monday is not a public holiday.
Suggested accommodation: Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park. This has a range of accommodation
options and also has free hot pools. Please book your own accommodation as soon as possible
as it quickly gets booked out. Let Lynne know when you have done this.
Saturday 15 October
Travel down to Rotorua. Going via the new Hamilton bypass takes under three hours.
We will go for a walk in the afternoon, the free thermal area at Kuirau Park in central Rotorua
and/or Sulphur Point, also free. Very easy walking.
Atticus Finch restaurant for dinner.
Sunday 16 October
Walk to Hot Water Beach by Lake Tarawera. Check it out here.
Drive 20 minutes to Lake Tarawera. Walk 4-5 hours on a fairly easy track along the lakefront to
Hot Water Beach. A hot swim.
At 3.30pm we will get a water taxi back to our cars. $25 for “Seniors” and return to Rotorua.
Monday. Back to Auckland. Those who have to work on Monday could return on Sunday late
afternoon.
