Unique experience. I first for our club.
Make you own way to the city and meet at the Auckland Ferry Terminal in time to catch the 9.15am ferry to Rangitoto Island for a unique day out.
It is cheapest to book online. No Gold Card discount.
We will have a guided tour by ex-park ranger John Walsh around the Rangitoto wharf area. The tour will take 2.5 hours and covers 2.5 km and looks at fascinating aspects of the island such as botany (focusing on the dominant species), Pohutukawa, geology (volcano), DoC’s total eradication of 9 pest species and native bird introductions, work of prison inmates building roads and tracks, industries trialed on the island. We will also get the opportunity to visit two of the currently occupied baches and meet the owner of at least one. After the tour finishes, we have the option of climbing to the summit and returning on the 4pm sailing.
There is a $5 per head donation requested to go towards bach renovation work being carried out on the island. Please have the correct change which Dennis will collect prior to the event starting.
Please note there is no Glen Eden meeting. If you are catching the train to town, ride in the last carriage in order to meet any others doing the same, but do check the schedule first as it is common for buses to replace trains on the weekends.
