If you’re like most of us and you’ve been eating too much fine food and imbibing too much top shelf or some brown ale, then this walk will ease you into walking. Paremarema Reserve reopened last year after a make over to, you guessed it, bring it up to today’s sanitised standards. Even so, it is a pleasant walk with a swimming hole at the turn around. So put your togs under your walking attire and take a dip.
We then drive around the road to Sander’s Reserve where there are great views out to the city, Whenuapai air base, Greenhithe, Hobsonville Point and more. The park caters to mountain bikers (though not popular with this group), horse riders, children’s playground and bike tracks and many walking tracks and an off leash dog area. We will walk past The Faraway Tree which is adorned with carvings of faces, waka and more.
Meet at the carpark of the Riverhead War Memorial Park (opposite the Caltex station) at 9.30.
Note: Meet at Glen Eden Post Shop at 9am if wanting to car pool. The leader will however be going directly to Riverhead.
