The tides are right for the challenging trip to Mercer Bay (near Karekare). This week we will be joining forces with the North Shore Tramping club and utilise the knowledge of experienced tramping Ian Morris. Note the later start time (to coincide with the tides). If wanting to meet at Long Race Road advise leader in advance.
Quite a challenge to climb down the cliff to the beach, however, there are more rope assisted sections than last year. The object of the exercise is to view the magnificent Cathedral Cave situated under the 160 metre cliff face. Accessible only via a 100 metre sea cave so bringing a torch is essential. As you exit the far end of the sea cave the water rushes in to meet you but provided the timing is right you can easily wade around the corner and into Cathedral Cave.
