CHANGE OF PLAN. DUE TO POOR WEATHER AND CHALLENGES ASSOCIATED WITH VSITING WHATIPU, THE FOLLOWING WALK WILL REPLACE THE PROPOSED WHATIPU WALK.
Anne will be leading a walk along the Arataki Loop Track/SlipTrack,Pipeline and the Beveridge Track. This will be about 2 to 4 hours depending on if the group would like to walk the Nature Trail and Exhibition Drive Walk as well.
I will be at Glen Eden PO shop at 8.15, leaving by 8.30 and we will meet at the Arataki Visitor Centre,300 Scenic Drive, Titirangi at 9.00.
Meet at Glen Eden post office shop at 8.30am for car pooling.
Park at Whatipu car park by 9.30am. The road to Whatipu is quite rough and unsealed for the last 6kms. We will ascend the many steps to the open headland with wild and wonderful views over the Manukau. We will continue along to the Muir Track and down to the Pararaha camping area, shelter and toilet. A good stop for lunch and afterwards down to the beach, explore a little and return to the start either back along the way we came or along the beach which involves about 7kms of sand walking.
A moderate level of fitness is required for this tramp and it should take about 5 hours.
