After numerous Covid-19 related delays, the redevelopment of the spectacular Omanawanui Track & Puriri Ridge tracks is now complete, resulting in a totally different experience to the rugged track of old. Come and see for yourself and see where all your rates money has gone! You personally might have contributed to either the 3120 boxed steps or the 700m of boardwalk or the 1070 tonnes of gravel airlifted onto the ridge. The plan is to park at the Whatipu Car Park and take the Omanawanui & Puriri Ridge tracks to the Donald McLean lookout, returning the same way. Approximately 12km return. Please note that this walk has steep & exposed sections. With it being scheduled for July, please ensure you have warm clothing and a good raincoat. In the event of very bad weather on the day, an alternative hike will take place & we will save this one for another day as on a good day the views are spectacular.
