Mahurangi East Regional Park staying at two baches on the nights of Saturday 10 April and Sunday 11 April
For those of you who have not been there before this will be a chance to see this area of Mahurangi Regional Park normally still only reached by boat. For those people who have been there on one of the club’s previous trips this will be a chance to see and explore the 95 Hectares that were added to the park in January this year.
Big Bay Bach is on the eastern side of the peninsula that encloses the Mahurangi Harbour. It has three bedrooms, one with a double bed and two with bunk units (sleeping two). Total 5 or 6 people. This bach has an outside toilet and no shower however there is a very large salt water bath very close by and a lovely beach. Vine House has four bedrooms, bathroom and open plan living. The kitchen and dining areas open onto a covered deck where you can enjoy the sea views and the sunsets. It has two double beds in separate rooms and two rooms each with two single beds so sleeps anywhere from 6 to 8 people. People would need to take a bottom sheet, something to use as a pillow and some sort of bedding such as a sleeping bag or eiderdown and of course their personal gear. Things like cutlery and crockery are provided and there are electric stoves. You can walk from one bach to the other in about ten minutes. There is also a basic campsite. There is a 3-3.5 hours walk in and out. The cost is $42.80 for two nights. Breakfasts and lunches self-catered. Evening meals possibly communal as arranged between occupants of each bach for best use of the facilities.
Note: The cut off date for this trip is 1 April. Please confirm with Ralph before this date.
